In response to the current situation that the study of urban residential energy demand lacks consideration of the differences in energy consumption behavior of occupants, urban residential buildings in Guangzhou are used as the research object. This study generates three typical occupant behavior patterns of high energy demand (B1), medium energy demand (B2) and low energy demand (B3) on the energy use of urban residential buildings in Guangzhou with questionnaire surveys and clustering analysis, and figures out its impacts on energy demand by using DesignBuilder software. The results show that there is great diversification in the behavior patterns of energy use among urban residents in Guangzhou, which directly leads to large differences in energy demand among households. The annual average household energy demand under the B1, B2, and B3 models is 36~49, 31~41, and 25~33 GJ.
